‘Dignity Links Ltd’ is a Social Enterprise company where we exercise our business skills to coerce social changes and seek viable ways for merging social and business objectives.
People with mental illnesses are viewed differently from those with physical illnesses and combating the social and occupational exclusion to enable them to gain employment continues to be a tremendous challenge.
Individuals with psychological disorders face negative stereotypes, stigmatizing attitudes, and social barriers that cause deleterious effects. Rejection by the public leads to social isolation of these individuals and results in their segregation. It becomes very difficult for an individual to break out of this social ghetto. The impact on their self-image is then disastrous, leading to social withdrawal and lack of motivation to achieve their goals. This inactivity may then cause a further deterioration of their illness. 70% of those with psychiatric problems rank work as an important goal (NAMI, 1996-99).
For people with disabilities work is a therapy that helps to improve the overall physical and mental health and prevent a relapse. The unemployment rate among people with mental disabilities ranges from 44% to 72%.
This company is a collaboration of people both from the public and private sectors. Through the utilization of a typical business environment, we provide Occupational & Wellness Support for persons with Psychiatric & Developmental Disabilities. We envision a society where persons with Psychiatric & Developmental Disabilities are accepted as contributing members of their community.
Our Mission is to combat the Social, Occupational and Environmental barriers that exclude these persons from economic self sufficiency and integration into society
Baristaexpress is a ‘First-of-its-Kind’ cafe in Singapore where people with disabilities are provided supportive employment in a business enterprise, operating in a commercial district.
While functioning as a ‘Transition’ between a sheltered workshop and open employment, we provide ‘On-the-Job’ Vocational Training, Counseling, Support Services and actively seek avenues for placement in open employment and reintegration into the public workforce.
