INTRODUCTION
Autism Association (Singapore)
Set up in 1992 by a group of parents
Became a charity organisation in Jan ’95
In Jul ’97, the Association was admitted as a member of the National Council of Social Services (NCSS).
Granted the Institute of Public Character (IPC) status, allowing the Association to issue tax-exempt receipts for public donations.

Together, these facilities serve more than 150 clients.
Children’s Centre
Early Intervention Programme (EIP) is conducted at the Children’s Centres. This is targeted at children from 2 to 6 years old. The programme is intensive and individualised, teaching children the essential skills in areas like language, communication, behaviour, perception, self-help, play, etc. The programme also emphasises equipping of parents and care-givers.
Youth Centre
Provides daily programmes for youths from 12 to 21 years old. Training areas include basic self care, home management, social and relational skills, use of money and public facilities and leisure. These are individualised to the client’s needs through meetings with caregivers.
Singapore Autism School
Singapore Autism School is a special project undertaken by Autism Association of Singapore. The school began operations on 1st September, 2005. It is funded jointly by the Ministry of Education and the National Council of Social Services.
Singapore Autism School caters for children with autism between the age of six and sixteen. These children are unable to access mainstream curriculum.
School Philosophy
The school strives to deliver effective programmes as each child is unique and capable of learning.
School Programmes
Singapore Autism School aims to provide the pupils with a balanced curriculum which focuses on life skills, functional literacy and functional numeracy.
Proposed development of a purpose-built SPED school for Singapore Autism School.
The Singapore Ministry of Education has approved the development of a purpose-built Special Education (SPED) school to be located in Bukit Batok West Avenue 3 which can accommodate up to 400 students. The project has started and the new school is due for completion end 2009.
